Reviews from the London MLE pilot

What has the students response been to the London MLE so far?
“It motivated students – Forum use in ICT for example showed many students all engaged in a managed ICT discussion on Sunday at 6.15pm with the teacher present, answering questions and moderating discussion. The same forum use was not noted in Science however. Home use helped students improve the quality of work – for example PowerPoint presentations were worked on at home and had sound/animations added which were superior finished to those available in school.”

“Very enthusiastic. It has been a powerful motivational tool for Year 9, always a difficult year to enthuse. For the first time ever in my experience as Head of ICT, KS3 pupils have gone home, improved their work and resubmitted it. The hand in tool displayed on the screen motivates and as a last resort "names and shames". The students love the immediate feedback. Once a teacher can work out how to comment (the most difficult part is installing the ActiveX control, which is not explained in documentation or training) it is easy to add valuable comments that students appreciate.”

Do you feel that using the London MLE will improve teaching and learning within your school?
“I think that learning from home will improve and I believe that reluctant attendees or long term sick students or those on unauthorised holidays will be able to access high quality teaching materials and access to the curriculum as well as enter into informed discussions with their teachers via the forums and email system. “

What are your overall thoughts about London MLE?
“Absolutely the best thing that I have seen in 40 years of being involved with schools. MLEs have now come of age.”

“Hopefully it will contribute enormously towards developing independent learning, but also a sense of being part of an online community.”
