The Fronter 91 release includes many updates and improvements to the Fronter user experience. Improved navigation, and updated text editor are just a few of the new features users can look forward to.
ENTRANCE HALL
With the Entrance Hall, users now have a visual representation of the rooms they have access to, directly on their Today Portal.
Students and teachers can navigate to their different classrooms by selecting a room’s image on their Today Portal. Select the room you would like to go to by clicking on the room’s corresponding image – no text reading, no drop down menu - just click on the image to go straight to the room.
VISUAL MAIL
Visual mail is a new internal messaging system for our younger users. Students can send messages to their classmates by simply clicking on their friend’s picture, from a list of classmates that they have access to. Students will use the improved primary text editor to write a message, draw a picture or record a sound to send to their friend.
RIGHT TO LEFT LANGUAGE SUPPORT
Fronter language support now includes support for right to left written languages, such as Arabic and Urdu. All tools and menus are moved to the right side of the application to remain consistent with this modification in page setup. For example, the Fronter room tool list will appear on the right hand side of the page when viewed in e.g. Arabic.
PRIMARY DESIGN TEXT EDITOR
An improved design for the primary text editor is now available, including easy upload of pictures and sound files. When users enter the primary design mode, the text editor buttons will be enlarged, and only the functionality most used by children will be included e.g. Font, text size, text colour etc.
CONTENT MIGRATION
The content migration tool gives teachers the ability to automatically convert and use courses from various sources, formats and learning platforms. The migration tool currently supports courses from IMS CP and Blackboard Learning System (Moodle support is currently under development).
LANGUAGE CHANGE IN SESSION
Users can now switch between languages while logged into Fronter. This change is completed by altering a personal setting found on your Today Portal.
OTHER IMPROVEMENTS
File Upload – A new upload function is now implemented in the text editor with sound recorder, and new design.

LRE – Improved design on the Learning Resource Exchange tool.

Support for Text Editor in Safari - The text editor in Fronter now supports FCK version 2.6.3. This updated version will also now support the Safari web browser.

Final Grade/Calculation (Global setting) - Room owners can automatically generate grades for hand-ins and tests that are connected to a Fronter room.

E-mail alias admin (Local setting) - Connect aliases to a master e-mail domain, with accounts controlled by local administrators.

Shibboleth - Fronter has joined the UK Access Management Federation for Education and Research, as both Identity Provider (IdP) and Service Provider.
